Desire lifestyle change, not results

When trying to tackle the issue of skin care your focus should be on lifestyle change, not just results. What do I mean by this? Well if you come up with a ridiculous regimen to improve your skin it is doubtful you could keep it up. Instead it is best to try and come up with daily lifestyle habits which you can easily accomplish. Simply focusing on the habits will get you results.

Sleep on a brand new towel

Sleeping on a towel accomplishes several things. The first thing is it creates a clean environment for your face. Your pillow gets drenched with face oil and every night you are grinding face oils into the fabric of your pillow (yuck!). The towel also absorbs oil from your face. You can get 2 nights out of one towel by flipping it over.

Wash your face twice daily

Wash your face in the morning and before you go to sleep. Remember those hand towels covering your pillow when you sleep? Well if you wash your face before laying down it makes them work even better because you are reducing the oils they will have absorb. Any oils that aren’t absorbed should be washed in the morning.

Avoid touching your face

Not much to say here, except that on average your hands are usually filthy and full of invisible oils and germs. Touching your face will add oils and germs to your face.

Rotate between benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid

Rotating between a benzoyl peroxide face wash and a salicylic acid face wash will help you from getting to acclimated to a certain product. By changing the product you keep the environment changing so you can’t get used to the product. This technique keeps over the counter acne medication working at its best all the time.

Exercise, specifically cardio

Cardio increases over all skin health in a number of ways. The sweat helps you remove toxins from the body and increases over all health.

Seek professional treatment early

Go see a dermatologist right away, the sooner the better. Waiting until you already have acne scarring will do nothing. Getting a professional opinion about your skin health is best early on. You can go here to find a dermatologist in your area.

Avoid fat and grease

This really gets more into improving on certain vitamins and nutrients. It is not really the fat and grease that cause the problem but a lack of vitamins and minerals. In fact there has been no scientific link proving causation between fat/grease and acne. However filling up on junk food will reduce the amount of healthy food you are eating thereby reducing your vitamin and nutrient intake. Skin health is directly affected by vitamins and minerals.

Exfoliate

Exfoliation is stripping away dead skin cells. This has a direct effect on skin health and acne. Exfoliate twice a week adjusting for oiliness (increase) or dryness (decrease). Here you can learn how to exfoliate.

Use paper towels to dry your face

Using a paper towel will keep “repeat” oil and dirtiness from being spread over your face. Using a regular face towel over and over is dirty for your skin and repeatedly rubs old oils on your clean face.
